1. Moriya Khichdi (Fasting Recipe)


Ingredients:

• 1 cup moriya (barnyard millet)

• 1 medium potato, diced

• 1 green chili, chopped

• 1 teaspoon cumin seeds

• 4-5 curry leaves (optional)

• ½ teaspoon black pepper powder

• 2 tablespoons roasted peanuts, crushed

• 1 tablespoon ghee or oil

• 2 cups water

• Salt (sendha namak for fasting)

• 2 tablespoons coriander leaves, chopped


Instructions:

1. Wash & Soak: Rinse moriya thoroughly and soak for 15–20 minutes.

2. Cook Potatoes: Heat ghee in a pan, add cumin seeds, green chili, and diced potatoes. Sauté until soft.

3. Add Moriya & Water: Add drained moriya, water, salt, and black pepper. Stir well and cook on low flame for 8–10 minutes.

4. Garnish & Serve: Add crushed peanuts and coriander leaves. Serve warm with curd or vrat chutney.

2. Moriya Pulao (A Delicious and Healthy Meal)


Ingredients:

• 1 cup moriya (barnyard millet)

• 1 medium carrot, chopped

• ½ cup green peas

• ½ teaspoon cumin seeds

• 1 teaspoon ginger paste

• 1 green chili, chopped

• 2 tablespoons ghee

• 2 cups water

• Salt (to taste)

• Fresh coriander for garnish


Instructions:

1. Wash & Soak: Rinse moriya and soak for 15 minutes.

2. Sauté Vegetables: Heat ghee in a pan, add cumin seeds, green chili, ginger, and chopped vegetables. Cook for 2–3 minutes.

3. Cook Moriya: Add moriya, salt, and water. Cover and cook on low heat for 8–10 minutes.

Ingredients:

• ½ cup moriya (barnyard millet)

• 3 cups milk

• ¼ cup sugar or jaggery

• ½ teaspoon cardamom powder

• 10-12 almonds & cashews, chopped

• 4-5 saffron strands (optional)


Instructions:

1. Roast & Cook Moriya: Dry roast moriya for 2 minutes, then add milk and cook until soft.

2. Sweeten & Flavor: Add sugar, cardamom powder, saffron, and nuts. Mix well.
